I will be hosting a couple of UK visitors to a night under dark Australian skies at Mangrove Mountain [aka The Pony Club] on Saturday 1st December.
this may be a final chance for all of us to get a session together this year.
and it is the only opportunity for Dan and partner from UK.
It would be good if some people could bring their Big Scopes out :)
It will be after Last Qtr so moon rise will not be a problem (estimated moon rise 2:33am).
Please put this date in your calendar and try to make it a big pre Christmas get together.
Please register your interest by replying to this thread.
All Welcome. (with or without telescope)
See here (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=26142)for some location details or ask.

Hey Carly, Long time!
Shame you and Michael (?) couldn't make it.
Hope to catch up later
WooHoo Jakob,
If we get some more folk, I might be able to rustle up a famous Apple Charlotte!

I just want to say thank you to Allan_L for arranging this! I really am looking forward to meeting you all and enjoying your amazing skies. I am unsure what an Apple Charlotte is but I am determined to bring one along too :D

Dan it is a version of an apple pie, with an icing. If you do a search on the term you will see many different types, but the one Allan refers to is a product of the Charmhaven Bakery on the NSW Central Coast. It has become something of a tradition of gatherings at the Bretti dark site camping trips, thanks to Allan. It is always most welcome, and often accompanied by a glass of Port. ;)

Yep,
Me and UK Dan and partner and friend and partner and Apple Charlotte. (ordered)
Meeting Dan at Mangrove Mountain General Store (cnr. Waratah Rd) at around 7pm.
[This is the closest public toilets as far as I know for anyone interested - behind community hall across the road from the shop]
Unfortunately the shop itself will be closed by then, they tell me, so eat before hand, or bring something.
I will bring Tea Coffee milk and hot water.
Sunset around 7:45.
moonrise 2:30 Sunday
But I have to leave by midnight.

How was it last night at the Pony Club? Looked to be a pretty good night from my place but it did get pretty damp, a legacy of all that rain. I trust the visitors were impressed, and hopefully stuck around for Eta Carinae to rise.:eyepop:

A big thank you to all of you for such a memorable night!
Thank you Allan for responding to me on this thread and organising the evening and looking after us, your magic van had everything we could ever need
Every one we met showed great hospitality and really accommodated our non-astro friends, pretty sure they have an interest now in it now and I really am glad I got to experience the southern skies with other like minded friendly folk.
I hope I can return the favor one day to any of you although I can't promise you amazing skies in London. I genuinely mean that though, if ever you are around please do let me know as I would be happy to organise a night.
8 days was certainly not enough to enjoy this amazing country so I am certain we will be back in the future and would be glad to enjoy your company again.
:thanx:

Had a good turn out last night.
Geoff (Inmykombi)
Jakob
Rick
John (Fizics)
Shane
Plus our UK guests Dan and Angel
plus there friends Adam and Steph.
(albeit Angel and Steph originally form US)
Unfortunately the Pony Club was not at its best.
Dew started early as soon as the breeze dropped and it got pretty damp.
The sky was not as dark as usual probably due to the moisture in the air.
However, a good time was had by all, and some nice views were shared.
(and two different varieties of apple charlotte were sampled. (yes Mr Owl, one had cream).
Thanks to everyone for coming.
I locked the gate at 11:58. ;)

Thanks Dan,
It was a pleasure to host you and your friends.
They were most appreciative of little groups efforts.
and we enjoyed your company.
You are all welcome back anytime

Dan, Angel, Adam and Steph... it really was good to have you all there.
We all were able to see some sights that were new to some of us, and rare for all of us. Geoffro, what were those satellites called, that you saw with your bionic eyes? The 3 in perfect sync.
Saw the ISS, saw old familiars in Orion, The Pleiades, managed to bullseye a lacklustre Neptune and a better-looking Uranus.
And the company was good. It was heartening to see everyone being so welcoming to our guests.
Thanks Allan for organising the night. Dew aside, It went very well.
Thanks to everyone who was able to get there.
