Photo Challenge
05-11-2018, 08:29 AM
This is the thread for any comments that you would like to make about any of the submissions in this month's Photo Challenge.

Additionally, if you have any shots that you have taken on the subject, but didn't quite "make the cut", you can share them on this thread too.

This month's theme, courtesy of zenith, is something in a "Forest"

This is where I usually go wrong :-(
The one I choose as the entry is less liked than one of the set I sometimes post. But I'm no judge of good and bad photos, and that's why we rely on all the entrants to do it. It's so subjective.

Anyhoo, this is a small set of my 'foresty' type photos which I hope some of you enjoy looking at.

Great pics Trevor, I think you chose well for the competition.
Here are a few of mine from Mt Dandenong the other week, hopefully I chose my entry well.

Trevor that looks weirdly familiar, and I've never been to Tazzy (is that how you spell it)

Hi Mirko: Yeah, i think it's probably not an uncommon sight wherever there is a river or lake. Maybe the tree species change, but the rest remains the same. :-). And that would be more correctly spelled Tassie :-)
Thanks Tim. I was just looking at the comp again and notice the theme as something IN a forest, so I don't know if I should change it.
Love the pics too, and especially the leech. Really nice photo that one.
Are those trees, musk trees?

Haha thank you so much Allan.
I had lots of fun with this challenge because it was so timely. I'm currently binge watching 7 seasons of Pretty Little Liars on Netflix (up to season 6) and I got excited with ideas for the forest title. On the show there's plenty of spooky dolls scenes right thru the seasons, murders (all connected to the girls who keep getting framed by a terrorist), lots of forest scenes, digging up dead bodies, ghosts etc. So the pics I took were just as much for me as for this challenge. I used my cousin as the model, and I wanted her dressed just so (loaned her my dress), bought hairband, some shots I covered her arm in mud (did her face too but the sunlight doesn't show it on her face grrr). Pulled apart limbs from Barbie dolls, buried them limbs poking out, and a really spooky doll for a prop that Chucky is probably pals with . I used golden hour light so the pressure was on, my cousin was such a patient
model. She wasn't allowed to smile in any of the shots as I wanted it dark & mysterious. The shot I entered, I was trying to replicate a ghostly travel through the forest. My first go at a daytime long exposure (more pressure lol). So many attempts getting the timing right with her getting up and walking and framing between the trees and also clearly showing a body moving away. And bless her heart, my little cuz did it all happily.

These challenges are really fun for people like me learning their way through photography, it helps us to get creative and push our limits to see what we can do.

These are my reject pics featuring Chucky and CSI Barbie .
The show's theme is shhhh can you keep a secret? So that's why that pose in one of the pics.

Hi Trev and Tim, I enjoyed looking through your pics.

Trev, my fav. pic is #4, and Tim #1.

Lewis- I think your photo is fantastic, but I'm struggling to understand how it belongs under "forest" being that it's grass . Correct me please if I'm wrong, but isn't forest about the trees?
