I've heard many people say that telescopes are like golf clubs. If you can't play a round of golf with one club then one telescope isn't enough to cover all targets.

Here is my heavily cropped short game of NGC 7424 from the point of view of my Esprit 100ED (9 iron). A bigger version is on astrobin (https://www.astrobin.com/full/374634/B/?nc=user) but please don't look too closely. Clearly a 2 wood is needed here. I've seen some nice examples of other targets recently with a certain IIS member showing great results with a 254mm carbon fibre Newtonian astrograph which has much more reach than my Esprit. Does anyone have any experience (positive or negative) of a Newtonian of that size on a Sky-Watcher EQ6-R mount or similar?

Kevin

PS I'm not a golfer so apologies if my analogy doesn't work! :P

Looks good Kevin. I use a 10" on an HEQ5, but an EQ6 should be fine.

Good work on a difficult target... even if you're using the right scope.

Thanks Rick and Kevin. On looking a second time I realised how ugly the background was. Here's a new version with things cleaned up a bit (also on astrobin (https://www.astrobin.com/full/374634/C/?nc=user)). Looks like I better redo my flats...
