I'm selling my baby! I love this scope.

Bought from Bintel in about August 2004, and has had many upgrades and much love since then. Mods and upgrades include:

- SkyCommander DSC computer, including encoders (best mod ever, for my visual observing). Similar to Argo Navis (but not as good), gives "push to" instead of "go to" to allow you to see 10x as many objects in one night.
- Moonlite CR2 8:1 fine focuser, MOTORISED! (best mod ever, for both visual and imaging)
- Dual temperature sensor, for both mirror and ambient.
- Cooling fan and backing plate to fit over collimation screw holes
- Ebony Star on altitude hubs for smoother altitude motion
- Milk Bottle Washers and Furniture sliders for smoother azimuth motion
- Partially Flocked, opposite focuser and around mirror end of tube
- Baader film solar filter for observing/imaging the Sun.
- Handles on the dob base for moving small distances.

This scope has given me many many months and years of joy, and has given me some of the best views I've seen through a telescope. When compared with views through equivalent 10" SCT's, I've always preferred the wide, contrasty, pinpoint views through my newt.

When paired with my EQ Platform (also for sale (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=17106)), a 5x powermate and a webcam, this scope has produced some amazing images of our solar system, see below for some examples:

- Jupiter Animation (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/downloads/20060525-jupiter_anim.gif) (250k gif)
- Jupiter Animation (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/downloads/20060612-jupiter_anim.gif) (250k gif)
- Plato Mosiac (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/downloads/20060803-platomosaic-full.jpg) (600k jpeg)
- Straight Wall Mosiac (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/downloads/20061001-strwall-arzachel-text-rp.jpg) (500k jpeg)

From these examples, you can see that the optics in this scope are (in my opinion) as good as mass-produced optics get.

If you're looking for a pristine, clean scope with no scratches, then this isn't the scope for you. It does have some surface rust, some scratches, nicks and small dents. It just shows that this scope has been used, and used well! If you're like me, you only care what it looks like through the scope, and not what minor blemishes it has on the outside.

I don't have the original box anymore, but do have the semi-circle foam packing that I use for transporting it in my car.

Due to size, pickup only (Gosford, on the Central Coast of NSW. 1 hr north of Sydney). I'm happy to drive to about 2 hours outside Gosford to meet. I'm also happy to give you some tuition if you need it/would like it.

I'm selling it because I've bought a 12" GSO + EQ6, for my imaging pursuits.

Price: AU$750, direct deposit. Paypal add 3%.

They sell new for between $600-$700, but look at all the extras you get! It would cost well over AU$750 just to buy those extras if you bought them new.

Edit: Adding Eyepieces
To sweeten the deal for first-time scope owners, for an extra $30 I'll throw in the 3 GSO Plossl eyepieces that came with the scope when I bought it:
- 9mm
- 15mm
- 32mm

They're great budget eyepieces and will keep you going for a long time. I used them for over 18 months before buying a premium eyepiece.

Enquiries via PM please.

Thanks for looking.

Well some one lucky is going to get a great scope, a piece of Australian History. This scope was used by Mile The man who started Iceninspace and went on to become one of Australia's greatest Planetary Photographers. You should sign it Mike and charge a bit more.

Looking forward to it Mike :) I've been reading your post on EQ Musings and the issues setting up / taking down etc... Those are the same reasons I've gone back to the dob world, the ease and convenience are hard to beat

Unless you have a permanent setup, :P

cheers
Mark

Mike, I can imagine the mixed feelings you must be experiencing - I bought my Bintel BT-252 on your recommendation about a year ago, and it's still "brand new" to me - this is one excellent scope for its price and has provided me with many, many hours of enjoyment and discovery! Whoever bought yours got a fantastic deal.

I hope Mark enjoys it.
