Well, OK, I’m bragging. Currently a long way from the Shire, in London, for the ROG astro-awards, and was bemused when we checked into our room to see a “What’s on” guide with a very familiar image inside :D

Indeed...and a hearty congrats...a shame you could not have been here for the awards night. The Brits put on quite a spread. It would be great to see somthing on a similar scale back home, but sadly unlikely...

Thanks Andy.
We touched down back in Sydney a couple of days ago...the 11 hour time zone shift, something I don't miss, brought back memories of flying for QF...
hence am still trying to get back to normal hours.
The Brits really did put on a great night. The APOTY display, now in a larger National Maritime Museum venue was awesome. Chatting with the museum Director (an Aussie!) got me a cook's tour of the newly installed the Annie Maunder Astrographic Telescope (AMAT) with their resident Astronomer Brendan Owen.
Also chatted with fellow Aussie Steven Mohr....and was amazed at his remote site set-up, dedication and attention to technique and detail. His galaxy win was well deserved.
We then left Greenwich and toured the Cotswolds for a couple of weeks. Absolutely beautiful countryside and were also blessed with excellent weather
Attached are some more pictures of the event etc.

Peter, in the second photo you posted today, it looks like they're using a Sky Watcher refractor as a finder. What model are they using?

Well, yes, it’s a Skywatcher, but as to which one, sorry, I would not have a clue....(the words “astro” and “ physics” on an OTA usually get my attention:) )
I recall they are going to use it as a Solar telescope. The intention is to run public outreach sessions which will include some imagaing....a challenge given the light pollution and weather!
