Hi all,
aahhh the lovely Omega to the rescue.
Was a real iffy night with conditions taking so long to settle after another stinkin' hot day. Was after more Ha data to add to another object in the, 'still to finish' pile, but things didn't look good.
Time was marching on so thought I'd visit the grand lady of all globulars... considering the unsteady conditions, she didn't disappoint.

Congrats on the nice image. It's not perfectly sharp but is very good considering how you describe the conditions. I wonder how many stars are visible in it.

Nice image rich! I like the star colors in it..like Roger says....I hope the seeing will be a bit better for you soon. Its bad enough with all the cloud, then smoke etc then a clear night at last only to have bad seeing...I know it drives me nuts...lol, but very well done indeed!
Cheers Gary

Cheers,DuncanThanks for the nice compliment Duncan, hope your scope rolls up soon for some serious action.
Congrats on the nice image. It's not perfectly sharp but is very good considering how you describe the conditions. I wonder how many stars are visible in it.Cheers for that Roger, could have sharpened it more but then it looses its natural appearance imo. Still, there will be other nights hey!
iceman-Beautiful image Richard.Thank you Iceman, great object for short exposures with plenty to fill the eye balls !
RegiStar finds 6322 stars in this fine image- BertThanks for taking the time to do the count Bert;)
Ric- Great image Richard, well resolved all the way to the core. Very nice indeed. Thanks Ric for the nice comments! We are certainly lucky to have 2 of the brightest and largest globulars in our hemisphere just out the back door:)

Hello to all at IIS
I am just getting back into astronomy after a rather long intermission of a couple of decades. Presently I am in the middle of obtaining the various bits and pieces that I will need to see through the sky.
Once setup I will be asking many naive questions of the IIS community.
Apologies in advance

Thanks Rob, Bruce, Eric and David...
Not too hard to get a reasonable image with such a lovely subject hey!!
We are certainly blessed in this hemisphere with some of the skies best and brightest for sure.
On ya's...;)
Cheers

Hi Rich,
I don't often visit the astrophotos section for several reasons. However the link from the homepage aroused my interest and brought me here. Let me say that your image is an absolute cracker and anyone would be proud to stick their name on it.

Thank you very much for the compliment here John !!!
Lots of issue I've battled with the home made newt.... tracking down flexure in the tube and focuser plus getting use to having so much more weight on the mount changes charactoristics from what i became use to.
But not that all this mattered with the short sub exposures of this image.
Have a couple more parts to come to finally be happy and confident with this scope for longer autoguided exposures.
So your comment is reward for lots of problem solving.
All the best
Rich

I go my first real astro shot last night too - and of Omega on a guided C9.25 into a Canon 400D for 2.5 minutes, slight darkening with MaximDL
Very happy with it - compressed from 4mb to a lossy 145kb it looks okay still!

always something to buy in this hobby.....
As they say, 'Patience is a virtue', but what's a virtue and who cares, I want it now...
