Q: why do all 5-star hotels in China equip the toilet cubicle with an SOS button and a phone ?

A: because the chilies are so hot you may need to call for a bowl of numbing peppers.

And yes I am in China where the air is a muggy grey soup so thick that on a good day you can’t see the sun, never mind the moon or stars.

I was in Vietnam in August and most toilets (hotels n houses) have a short hose with a spray head attachment coming from the back wall. I kept forgetting to ask what it's for. They all had paper and flush nob.

A couple of hotel loos had the hose AND the bidet squirter so the hose wasn't for that.

Yep, strange things in other loos from Australian perspective.
