Improvements to your PST!

Sylvain Weiller, well known for his excellent images with the PST, has fitted his PST with a x1.5 photographic converter, which he claims has increased the focal length from 400mm to 600mm and gives better definition and resolution.

The front thread on the PST appears to be a 52mm thread.

The front thread of my early PST, of the lens cell that screws into the brass tube is an 46mm OD, 45mm ID X 1.5mm pitch. I'm presuming that they are metric threads not horrible weird sized Imperial threads.

The suggested converter screws onto the front of the black objective cell of the PST......this seems to have a52mm filter(?) thread.

Apologies, the thread in the front of the lens cell is 52mm.

Just ordered a 1.5 x extender to see for myself the results, might order a 2x’s one if it improves the image.

One of THE best 1.5x screw-on-teleconverters is the RICOH TC-200M made sometime ago by/for Ricoh & Olympus. You can find them on ebay sometimes for crazy money, sometimes not. It is very sharp and about as good as it gets for low chromatic abberation for these type of devices (telecentric amplifier / afocal lens). It has a 52mm screw mounting thread.

It is the equal of the also wonderful Nikon TC-E15ED.

Well the 1.5 x converter turned up and bummer it’s a fine thread and the PST is coarse thread, I can get it to screw on one thread enough to hopefully hold.
