Hi,

I've cut up a yoga mat to use as insulation for my 180 Mak. It's working well - the only night I've had dew issues is the night I set up without the mat. However, I'm finding that there are still currents affecting the star test for around 90 minutes, so I'm trying to source some of this product locally:
https://www.reflectixinc.com/products/duct-insulation-indoor-and-outdoor/?highlight=BP48025

What I like about this product is that it's 4 layers - foil/bubble/bubble/foil, so I reckon it would do the trick. So far I've only been able to find it on ebay, from the US, for around $200 AUD posted. Does anybody know of an equivalent product here in Australia? I've checked out Bunnings and there doesn't seem to be anything with multiple layers, and the R rating of what they do have is only around R2, while Reflectix is R4 - R6.

The reflectix on eBay comes in a 48" x 25' roll, so maybe if there's anyone else interested we can all chip in. If there were 10 of us, it'd be $20 for a 48" x 30" piece.

Cheers

Stephen

Hi Stephen, Kingspan air cell insulation is available in Australia. They have different types, with foil on both sides and foam between. I got some from a builder friend and just today made up a jacket for my 180 Mak, hope to try it next clear night.

Nice.

By the way I'd suggest trying it on two separate nights with the back open vs the back closed to see whether this actually helps or not - my own experience is that it wasn't necessary to cover the back.

You could also look at the Thermobreak product at sekisuifoam.com.au.
Looks good but probably only available in large rolls unfortunately.
I have been looking for similar for my micro obs project, so could be interested in pooling with others.
