Here's some macro shots of a March Fly, taken on the weekend. I used the 350D + Sigma 17-70mm @ 70mm. I was able to get to about 4-6cm away from the fly without it moving :) It's a bloody big fly, about 2cm long I reckon. Nice and colourful too, and what big eyes you have! :P

The first one is almost a full crop, but still resized down to 800px for the web. The others are crops to about 2000px, and then resized down to 800px.

These are my first real insect macros, kinda fun! :P

I am now starting to worry about you Mike. You now photograph Flies!!!! Not too bad wit hthe colour ;)

Yep, its about the time of year that they start arriving. the ones up here have a nasty bite. I know quite few people who are allergic and go into anaphylactic shockif they get bitten, so its long pants and shirts in 48 degree heat.

They are great shots Mike, I started out in Photography with Insect Macros. The more of these shoots I see, the more i want a Canon 400D, after Lostock it has moved way up my things to Buy list !

They are great pics Mike!



Their actual name is 'Marsh Fly' and they arrive any time after christmas.

They are mainly attracted to the colour Blue, so avoid wearing blue while outside :thumbsup:
