This takes me way back to the ' black and white ' TV Days.
I watched ' Chips Rafferty ' Movies when I was about 8 years old.
Found it while browsing in Sanity Music Shop.

Smiley & Smiley Gets A Gun, now that's taking me back. Seeing Smiley at the Eastwood Odean, Saturday Matinee, the place was so full we were sitting in the aisles and the crowd were mesmerised to silence for most of the movie.

At half time at the Matinee we'd go to the canteen and buy a bag of lollies and an icecream for less than 6 pence ( 5/cents ) :eyepop:

There were usually 2 movies to see .... I loved the ' Merry Melodies ' Cartoons which were shown first.

By the Way .... back then you had to stand for the Queen while a picture of her was on the screen and God Save the Queen was playing.

I used to buy ' Jaffas ' and throw them all over the place, or roll coke bottles down the isle. :lol:

Blackie who was the Picture ' Bouncer ' always carried a torch and if he saw you throwing things, he kick us out :lol:

I remember seeing Smiley & Smiley Gets a Gun at the Crown Theatre, Queen St, St Marys back in the late 1950's when I was a little lad. Spent half the afternoon looking for the DVD's so guess what I'll be watching tonight? Thanks for bringing back the memories Col.

The other movies are all Aussie classics too, Chips always played the quintessential ocker hero, someone we dreamt we should grow up to be .
Jaffas were too expensive to roll down the aisles, but 1/3d to get in, 6d each way for the bus and 1/- for an ice cream and a packet of crisps. Would often spend the return bus fare on extras and walk home with my older brother. After all it was only 4km and we were grown up , at least 8 or 9, brother was / is 2 years older

It seems I missed Chips by a couple of years. I remember my parents talking about him. I'd be quite interested to see how the Eureka Stockade was portrayed - I don't think most people understand what a pivotal event it was.





Ah yes, the good old days when kids knew what those things below the hips are for.

I was more of an action-adventure kid. Movies I loved before the age of 10 were:

The Guns of Navarone
Jason and the Argonauts
The 300 Spartans
Robyn Hood
The Devil at 4 O'Clock

I was taken at 6 to a Laurie and Hardy, black & white, silent movie with subtitles. I was worried about being able to read the words, but it was fine.

I remember a Dad & Dave short; it was terrible. I suppose I could not relate to the humour of those times. They seemed to get a great laugh about being difficult, dumb or putting someone down. Its not humour at all, as we know it today.

Definitely a blast from the past. Remember Chips movies very well.
