Hard to believe it's been a year since last year's USA solar eclipse.

That is a lovely detailed composite image, sums up what an total solar eclipse is all about as an visual treat. Looking forward to the great Sydney eclipse in 10 years time.

It's a great result Peter. I think the bright ring you have around the Moon adds well to the dynamic range of the image.. and presumably appealed to some judges too. ;) Corona images can look a little flat when the inner corona is compressed to reveal prominences.

Would love to hear a little more about your processing steps, particularly what you're using for the HDR. I've been over-complicating it and now can't get a decent result :shrug:.

I can *fully* appreciate how satisfying it is to have these eclipse expedition images in ones collection :)

Ta Phil.

While it would too complex to step through here, I don't use HDR software.

I pre-stack similar images to reduce the noise, then using up to a dozen or so layers in Photoshop, selectively mask sections corona down toward the photosphere. Once the composite looks good I'll flatten it and use a little high pass filtering to bring out the delicate stuff.
