Hi all,
Last night I tried to use my Canon 6D piggyback style on the EQ6 and guided with PHD2. 50mm f4.5 30 seconds and ISO6400. Crux looked awesome as did the galactic centre but the LMC and SMC were a tad too low. There was quite a lot of red air glow too.
Cheers

Nice. The air glow adds a colourful dimension. Good detail in the milky way as well. The 5D is a good camera for this sort of work.

Hi Geoff,
Great images! When you say 'piggyback', do you mean your camera was on a telescope guided with PHD2? Or was your camera on a DVA bracket or something similar, attached directly to a dovetail bar (and no scope)? I haven't begun this sort of imaging yet, although I have a SW AZ-EQ6 at the ready (but polar alignment is never very accurate).

Cheers,
Richard

Nice pics !

But guiding for 30 sec subs on a 50mm is somewhat overkill.

I take pics 4 min subs at 600mm FL without guiding, but I am not a pixel peeper. It is just a correct polar alignment.

Thanks all, for the first time I was really quite happy with these.

Richard, It was an odd mix I must say. I had a Pentax 75SDHF on the mount and guided through its finder scope. The canon mount was a hack job mount onto the telescopes O ring that I made in the shed. Not perfect but it allowed my to point the camera anywhere near where I was guiding.

Skysurfer, what can I say but I suck at polar alignment so I use the guiding whenever I can. I was planning to do some longer shots that night but the cold got to me.

Cheers all and thanks again.
