View Full Version here: : Blood Moon
Here is my attempt.
Just using the Canon and 200mm lens.
Unfortunately the lens won't or cannot find proper focus (after being dropped).
ISO200, F5.5, 3 sec exposure.
I have played with contrast, colour balance and saturation to exaggerate the scene.
Anyway this one is for friends and family and is what it is :)

Valiant attempt anyway, as long as you enjoyed this mornings' show, that's they main thing.
Had similar experience a few eclipses ago where I decided to use my 400mm telephoto lens instead of a telescope. Much more difficult to achieve focus and ended up with soft focus shots.
This mornings show was well worth the effort of an early cool mornings sojourn.

Looks good to me. Great colour. I used a stock 200 also.
Getting up to start in the dark makes set up a challenge . I forgot to stop down again after getting foreground then , woosh , the moon was gone behind the escarpment.

You’ve got perfectly nice looking round stars so that would suggest good focus.
Lovely blood moon :)

Is the problem the speed of the moon when adapted to tracking?
Any of my shots more than a second or two blurred the moon without setting up the tracker and then the moon is darker than usual.

Best I could do at 6.30 am Neighbourhood was asleep so I got up, put a robe on put the 400mm F5.6 lens on my slr and stood in my neighbour's driveway as The moon was obscured in the back yard due to trees.
Only took 4 shots as it was cold and I was wearing nothing but a robe and moccasins in my neighbour's driveway holding a large camera.
(5dmark 2 iso 1/5 sec 6400) photoshopped to smooth out the noise but exposure
(edited as it was 1/5 of a sec not 5 seconds)

We all have those and it's a pity about the lens. Still the colour is great.

You did well to hold a 400 and get that. In Melbourne. In July . In a robe.

Thanks
I was leaning up against a wall and fired off a rapid succession, this one was the only one in focus so a bit of luck involved as well
