Hi All - I was looking to so something with a wide-field shot where I hadn't quite nailed the focus for some reason so I decided to add some additional panels (with their locations) of other deep-sky shots I've taken in recent years.
Although most of us here know the sky pretty well, many great deep sky images can seem a bit disconnected from their surrounds in the sky.
The background shot was taken with a Samyang 14mm f2.8 lens. NGC 5128 & NGC 5139 at top right were taken with the ED102. Bottom left & bottom right panels were taken with the Astro-Tech 65mm EDQ & the two remaining panels were taken with the Samyang 135mm f2 lens. All shots with either my Pentax K-5 or my modded Pentax K-5iis. Unfortunately I don't have any images of the Ara region to add

These are a fantastic way of seeing the skies and getting a better idea of where the objects are located.

That's superb! The main-image-and-insets arrangement really works, showcases the area.
I recall marc multiweb doing an excellent montage (iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=76747) only his huge main image was in H-alpha.

Thanks Andy!
Cheers Colin.
Thanks Mike!
Thanks MnT. Wow Marc's version is brilliant.
Thanks Marc - yes yours is brilliant indeed - love it!
Thanks Rodney. Can't take credit for coming up with the idea of course - has been done many times before.
Cheers Graham. I just used Photoshop to position the (sized appropriately) images as separate layers then blended them when I was happy with the positions and finally drew the framing boxes & lines to suit.

The presentation looks great and colours are nice, maybe just a little to magenta in the base image but overall an excellent presentation in my opinion.

Thanks Dave!
Thank-you Suavi. :)
Thanks Paul. Appreciate the feedback regarding the colour. Whilst I probably won't reprocess this one (due to the work required in assembling it) I'll definitely keep that in mind for future Milky Way images.
