View Full Version here: : Thats not a Lens, this is a Lens Thanks Mr Dundee LOL
Hi Guys someone mentioned big expensive lenses the other day, well have a look at this. :eyepop:
It, the Lens was made especially for some rich bloke in the Middle East dripping money, (a one of) it cost a cool $2,000,000 dollars it has never imaged a photo that we know of and has never been seen again.
It was a 1600mm F/5.6 Prime Lens ;)
He used to cart it around in a custom Mercedes from what I'm told.
How would that be hanging off the end of your mount

I wonder how it would compare to a considerably cheaper FET-300!
It might be F/8 but it could be reduced down to F/5.6 ;)
The text on the 2nd image says that the Leica 1600mm f/5.6 can become a 3200mm f8 with 2x Teleconverter, but that should really be a 3200mm f11. A huge chunk of glass either way (60kg). Also see .... https://www.apotelyt.com/photo-lens/leica-apo-telyt-r-1600mm-56
I'm working on my own version starting with a Nikkor 600mm f/4 and then adding stuff....

I’d happily volunteer to put my Santel up against that for a side by side bake-off for resolution. 10:1 the Santel would win.
Big camera lenses are overrated and overpriced IMHO. The one thing they are good at though - which telescopes aren’t - is rapidly focussing on a target - and possibly a moving target.

Canon once made a limited amount of 1200 f/5.6L lenses.

That is correct, they did I think National Geographic had two of them, they cost about 90,000 US if i recall.

Nikon's response was the Nikkor 1200-1700 f/5.6-8. Very rare and $$$
Here's an interesting story of its use in a hostage situation (on a Canon body of all things !!)
