moonlite focuser

Hi all

I was using the LX90 10" with this nicely engineered focuser for the first time in a long while

I noticed it was slipping with the weight of 31 Nagler and 2" diagonal when focusing

there's a knurled bolt in the side, does this tighten the drive so it wont slip or does it act as a brake or similar?

Yes that is the brake but you need to be careful how tight you tighten that up. It should be firm but not gorilla tight.

The Moonlite has a piece of white plastic like material that sits in a channel underneath the focusing spindle. It is longer than the distance between the two grub screws. On one of my Moonlites, there are only two grub screws that are used to apply drag pressure to the spindle against the drawtube. I notice on other of my moonlites, there is an additional knurled knobbetween the two grub screws. This knob to which you refer applies a further adjustable pressure to the spindle against the drawtube.
In effect, you can apply a little more even pressure via the grub screws to increase the drag if need be. Brian

the grub screws were a wee bit loose

After some experimenting on the kitchen table, I seem to have it sorted

the 31 mm nagler is a heavy little beast all the same
