A quick question re using a 300/350/400 D with a 10" meade SN. Is there likely to be problems getting focus with this setup. Will the mirror need to be shifted or a lower profile focuser used.

No I'm not really thinking of buying one (but it would fill out the collection nicely :P ), but I've had a couple of enquiries about it.

Cheers

You will have to change the focuser as the standard Meade needs to be thrown in the bin.

All I can advise is with the 8" Meade SN I changed to the Crayford focuser and found focus to be about half travel out with the 350D...so no problems with the Meade 8" SN...how this affects the 10" I cant say.

Apart from the fact the focuser needs to be thrown out, there should be np then Tony. But you could use the focuser if you needed to.

Off course you can Paul if you dont mind using a plastic focuser that will effect your collimation every time you touch the focuser, it wobbles all over the place focusing.

You would be better off collimating the scope with the camera attached atleast then you can get it close to how you want it when imaging.

Seriously the standard focusers are plastic.....just warning ya.

Thanks for that link Dave. At least now if it won't come to focus I know I don't have to move the mirror, whether I go for a SN or a Dob.

Dob?? Did I hear you say dob Paul??
;)
And after those comments out at Ron's last week, what with you being the only standard bearer for the refractor / SCT camp, surrounded by dozens of barbarians armed to the teeth with dobs.... that is a couple of times now I've heard you mumble some thoughts about getting a dob.

Perhaps you've finally seen the light - the BIG aperture light.

Cheers mate!

Paul I can honestly say I hope that day arrives sometime soon - I'd love to see that, it would be an awesome rig to mount a nice reflector on.

I reckon I'd be very very jealous actually.

Cheers!
