Hi Colleagues and Betters,
May I ask your opinion. Darker or lighter? One shot shows more detail, the other more contrast and I am not sure what is preferred by those with more experience than I. May I ask your opinion please?
Thanks for looking,
Simon.

Hard to say. My preference would be for the lighter one because the bright star isn't blown out so much. You could always just blend the two until you get a mix that satisfies.

I'm also voting for somewhere between the two. The lighter one has no data at the left of the histogram. The darker one is a bit black clipped.
Cheers,
Rick.

I combined the 2 images in PS6 (using layer align - the scale of the 2 are different), with the darker image as the base image. I changed the top layer to an 85% luminence layer, and then also removed the green.
You may not like this but we all have different tastes :)

I'd prefer a mix of both..I feel your dark is a tad too dark. A somewhere in between would be good.

Excellent, thanks for the feedback. Lewis - great idea combining the two! I might give that a go. I use Gimp 2 for my PS equivalent fiddling.
