I have been contacted by the newspaper about the Comet. I am writing the article and they want a photo but I didn't get any good photos of it.
May I please have permission from someone in here with a very good pic of it to send to them tonight.
It will need to be a fairly large good quality pic, and your name will be printed as the photographer.
Thanks for your help.

Strewth, that's opening the flood gates!! Many others captured images far greater than mine. Even then, I don't think i've seen a photograph that lived up to the real thing.

True Shane, about pics not being like the real thing.
If I get a few submissions I will send them off to the paper and they can decide.
No way am I going to be the judge of all the great pics in here.

Would be happy to contribute, but they might be looking for more local shots?

I have a major problem wit giving local new print my images "for free"
I have been paid several times by both Sky and Telescope & Astronomy magazine when they have used my images, yet the local news rags will only pay proffessional photographers and over seas image suppliers.
It's bollocks that they expect us to give our images for free, when they quiet prepared to pay to use images of the comet from South American and the USA. ( The Western Australian paid for images from over sea's).
I'd expect at least a $500 donation from them to my local Astronomica facility or investment in Astronomy education in return.
Call me picky or what ever, but they get a massive jump is sales when a great covershot is presented.
so what's the going rate or is it for free, just like in the Wild West???

Thanks Mike & to all those that emailed pics and permission.
I will send the lot off today.
Tony, this is for a local newspaper that won't be paying hundreds of dollars. They only sell 'hundreds' of copies. But I see your concern as far as BIG papers.
Hey Ken you can have mine if you like, it's in Observational Astronomy under What a Sight

It's all in the hands of the paper now. (pick me, pick me  )
When the paper comes out I'll post the story with pic.

for local community papers and small press prints, no problems, they welcome to get one-off usage. Thats different, my rant and rave is about big paper groups getting your images for free, making you sign release forms and copy-write clauses and then you find out they sell your images on.
Has happened before here in WA with private photographs.
