william Optics Megrez 90 Apochromat F6.2

Hi Everyone,

I have just upgraded my kit to a bigger scope and now have my William Optics Megrez 90mm Telescope for sale. This was the first refractor I used for Astro photography and has served me well for many years.
The scope is a 90mm F6.2, 558mm Focal length, with the field flattener it comes in at 445mm F4.9.

What’s in the box?
• William Optics 90mm FD APO (With original paperwork, Serial Number 100027, Manufactured Date 27/10/2010)
• William Optics Digital Dial Gauge Focuser (this is an upgraded focuser to the stock one and has temp gauge on the focus knob)
• William Optics Soft case (foam lined travel case for telescope)
• William Optics Tube Rings
• Losmandy Mounting plate
• William Optics AFR-IV Field Flattener
• Finder Scope and Bracket with Cover Sleeve)
• William Optics 2 Inch Diagonal (Dura bright DB-15 in box)
• Orion Vixen to Losmandy Saddle Plate

Optics are clean, and the scope only has minor cosmetic (fair wear and tear) marks.

Attached are images of the kit and some pictures I have taken with the scope using a Standard EOS-600D and a CDS-600D camera (modified EOS-600D)

Looking for $1000 (buyer to pay postage)

This would suit both a visual observer or a budding Astro photographer.

Hi Anthony, if I were to buy this it would primarily be used to start me off into astrophotography and as you can imagine I am trying to work out my budget to do this. I am just beginning my journey. Would the finder attached be adequate to start astrophotography or would I need to replace it fairly quickly in order to get reasonable results?

Hi Glenn,

The Megrez 90 to take astro images will work well as you will see from the images I have taken with it.

The finder scope in the pictures I purchased for when I was doing visual work so I could find the objects I wanted to see through the eye piece. It wouldn't be suitable for a guide scope.

I have a 70mm William Optics Zenith Star with rings that I mounted on top of the M90 that I used for guiding.

To be honest you would need to consider a guide scope or OAG to do long exposure (assuming a DSLR) like 5 minute subs.

I had a similar setup. I used a zwo guidescope ($150'ish) and Zwo asi034
camera ($150 I think) for guiding and it worked great.....I still use it on a second setup I have running and 5 minute exposures are a walk in the park with it.

For prospective buyers, you can fit a 50mm GSO/Bintel straight through finder/guide scopt through the WO finderscope rings. I took the WO finder scope out, and remounted the rings to a piece of machined aluminium plate mount on top of the main scope rings, works a treat.
