What was the last truly decent film to come out of Hollywood?
I don't know... it seems to be all garbage these days, even when they start with an otherwise first class tale (such as the absolutely dreadful adapation of Steven King's 'Dark Tower')
Well, here's a belter of a movie out of Italy:

Fair warning, this is not something to show your kids.
Any other suggestions?

Two enjoyable mini-series:
The Night Manager (Hugh Laurie)
Big Little Lies (Nicole Kidman)
Also watched a very good movie last night, excellent cast: "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri"

I really enjoyed; The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, which I believe is an English production.
I suppose that backs up the assertion of the opening post!

Have to agree, the scripts coming out of Hollywood have been woeful.
That said, I am a big fan of “The expanse” (Netflix) with season 3 to air fairly soon (sadly due virtually corrupt Fox media deals, not available in Oz yet)

I liked how you could see the characters start to realise that they might need to change their outlook on life.
Big Little Lies has many of the same qualities: gritty, a lot of depth and great acting.

The Expanse is excellent, one of the best hard sci-fi TV series to come out in a while. Super disappointing that it's been canceled.

I took my kids to see Isle Of Dogs yesterday- I really enjoyed it but was a bit above the kiddies heads. It's a stop motion animated film with strong Japanese influence and style. Quite funny too.
Hollywood made a good film? Which one? When?
If you are up for the best action flick ever the russians deliver (though its in english) with Hardcore Henry. Not suitable for kids its nonstop and the soviet stunt people are just insane, the film is practical effects all the way its just astonishing how they got it done. Shame about the plot really but this is a movie to watch for constant mindless violence if you can stomach the opening credits. And its one for anyone interested in practical effects, its like a good magic show trying to figure out how its done. Riding a motorbike through a van full of baddies without CG will have you thinking for weeks.
If you want creepy horror, The Autopsy Of Jane Doe was a damn good break from the silly stereotypes, though the ending veers in that direction.
Good story though and some of the non-action sequences will give you the creeps.
Good shark movie, The Shallows. Thats all since Jaws, though the Sharknado series can be fun especially if you're a movie buff.
As for a good movie, The Man From Earth, is one of the best ever. A pure example of a good story told well. No need for big budget names, no special effects, just a mesmerising story sold very well by good actors. Possibly the best movie I've ever seen and something this forum would enjoy. No sex, no violence, no CG, might be a little swearing but damn it'll make you think. Don't look for plot summaries, just give it a chance and watch it with no preconceived notions.

Expanse season 1 started off a bit ordinary but season 2 was a lot better and season 3 better again. Then they cancel it.

Yeah, I know. We need to fire the proto-molecule at Hollyweird.
