Have you taken this colour hue perception test:

https://www.xrite.com/hue-test

Many of us older folks have problems with colour discrimination which can affect what you see through your telescope, including your ability to detect or not see CA. Our eye lenses yellow with age, effectively becoming yellow filters.

Sadly 18, at 69 yo. However, since I have macular degeneration maybe that is reasonable. It's also why I only image these days.

Crap, I failed too, zero yet again! Some folks might say that my Samsung phone screen wasn't properly calibrated, therefore I would have done far worse on a 'superior brand's screen 😂

Score 2, which I presume is not too bad for a 67 year old.

score 2, age 49 (birthday today lol!). MBP screen has never been colour calibrated, although I've done some general calibrations for gamma/contrast. So, not sure how much of an impact screen may have had on my score, but I suspect not much. My eyesight has been worsening the past 2 years.

I'm not doing too bad for my age...
Just don't try this with a green or red LED light.
They're sure to stuff up any colour eye sight tests.

Advertorial soft-selling xrite and Pantone.

There are plenty of proper eye tests online if you want one - and that one isn’t one that optometrists would recognise.

Must everything be pulled apart? It was posted as a bit of fun.

Obviously anyone suspecting serious vision issues should consult an opthamologist.

Colour tests, be it for fun or of a more serious nature, are all good to help us gauge our individual colour perception/degree of colour blindness

It is important to keep one thing in mind about a colour test like this, be it for fun or otherwise, is that under the low illumination conditions that we find ourselves under, our colour perception and sensitivity can change completely from the bright illumination conditions that these tests are carried under, especially considering that our colour perception stops under low light levels and things appear in shades of grey.

Colour sensitivity under low light levels also does change with age too, not to mention that colour perception also depends on gender, age, genetics, and health.

Just eight years ago I could see pinks, greens and blues in M42 including from my home in Sydney. Today, using the same scope, the pinks have disappeared and the greens and blues are not as vivid <sigh...>

The validity of the results of any such test with regards to typical astro conditions are really meaningless unless the same test is also carried out under the exact same low light levels we encounter, and then the test itself needs to be altered again to provide a new standard under these conditions.

Just scored 0 at 54. Not bad.

This test though is not as good as a tonal and colour test done for military service. Those are really hard. I think the last time I did one I missed one of the tonal questions but overall got a 99.9% acuity.

Paul Haese
15-05-2018, 04:36 PM
That's probably because they have made the test primarily tonal Clive. If they mixed all the boxes up through all four of the runs you might struggle to get decent score.
