Hi all, here's my quick effort at making a mosaic of the Eta Carina region.
6 panels, each one with a stack of 5 x 60sec subs iso1600, hand stitched in photoshop.
10" F4.8 newt, canon 1100d guided on Heq5 mount.

Looks good, Rick, at least at IIS resolution!

Looks great.
The little HEQ5 did a great job.
It surprises me it carries a 10 inch.

You should take up sewing Rick!

Good job

Thanks Rick, I'm surprised that it shrunk that well, the stitched Tif file was 230 mb.

Thanks Alex, It handles it quite well, smooth slewing on the GOTO. It is actually a lot more noisy with a small light scope on top. I think a heavier ota keeps everything tight, and I do have it bolted to a pier so it's a lot more solid than a tripod.

Thanks Peter, just something different to try while waiting for some decent astro weather.

Great image. I’ve been trying to get a single panel without any star distortions on my 8” Newt and with collimation, coma corrector distances, camera tilt all factors I just marvel that the subs can be so well matched!

Excellent result Rick
Imagine a few more hours of data added to what you have already accomplished :eyepop:

I must be dumb or dim, or something, because I thought the idea of mosaics was to make a single panoramic image that covers a much larger area than a single frame can, but your very nice image covers almost the same area as the single frame taken through my 8" f/5 f/l 1000mm Newt that I have attached to this post. Your field of view is only 20% narrower than mine, so why do you need to create a mosaic?

Hay Raymo

Have a look at what Strongmanmike does with his wide angle scope. Absolutely amazing! No need for stitching at all. Actually I think Mike might be afraid of mosaics :)

Hi Raymo, yes I probably need more frames or less overlap. My scope is 1200mm fl so my field is even smaller. It's all just an experiment to see if I could get a reasonable outcome....without a big effort.
Here is an uncropped single frame for comparison of fields
