No one was punished because it was the Government against rebellious youth who were questioning the morals of their government and the industrial / military corporations who still pull the puppet strings.
I still have the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young album with this track on it.

At that time (1970) the talk in the pubs by the juice-freaks was they were Pro-Russian commo's who deserved what they got. The prevailing mindset was the domino theory that the commo's were coming and we (Australia) had to help stop the march south towards us. It was 12 months later when attitudes started to change and eventually sweep Gough Whitlam into power.
