Hey guys.

Andrew (astro_south) and I are currently working on the "Monthly Observing Challenge" project, which we'll be launching for the May calendar month.

Of course the major part of the project is actually observing, and taking the time to actually look in detail at what you're seeing, in order to describe it, or sketch it, for the observing challenge.

So this required an observing log template, to be used in the field at the eyepiece, so you can record your notes and sketches.

Here's one that I created specifically for this purpose. You can download it from the IceInSpace Files (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/?files) section (40k). It's in PDF format.

You may already have one that you use, of course that's fine. There's no requirement to use this one.

If you haven't taken notes or done any sketching before, don't be afraid to try it. What have you got to lose? You'll be amazed at how much more detail you bring out when you're actually trying to describe or draw what you see.

Observing is a skill, and like any skill, takes time to master. This is one way to help you hone those skills and in the end, be a better observer.

If you have any feedback on the template and/or suggestions on how to improve it, please feel free to let me know.

This is starting to sound a little like homework. LOL
Don't forget to set challenges for those with smaller scopes or binoculars.
Do we get a stamp if do good work?
