Yes, everybody images it, especially in the Northern Hemisphere. I think this one stands out a bit due to the quality of the data - provided by the wonderful Drs Jim & Linda Powell who are kind enough to share with me (and even image targets that I suggest.)

Captured at DSW New Mexico, Mar-Apr 2018

Objects in image:
NGC3628 with its lovely tidal tail, M65, M66, various smaller IC & PGC galaxies

Scope: TEC 160FL FL=1152.68mm
Mount: Paramount ME
Camera: SBIG STXL-16200
Filters: Astrodon
Image scale: 1.069 arcsec/pixel (Drizzled up)
Exposures: 16x1200s R, 15x1200 G, 15x1200s B, 80x900s L (35.3 hours)
Processing: PixInsight 1.8.5

Acquisition: Drs Jim & Linda Powell
Processing: Rick Stevenson

Thanks for looking.

Cheers,
Rick.

This must be a good image. I put down my smart phone and got up from watching telly to go to the computer just to take a good look! :D

Verrry nice work Rick!

Very nice Rick. Good capture of the star trail in 3628 and nice halo around 3627.

Thanks, Steve. The TEC 160FL does a great job and I reckon it compares favourably to larger aperture scopes in terms of sharpness and resolution.

Thanks, Lewis. Mike is the man when it comes to data capture. For now I'm mostly a processor. But when I retire things will be different!

Thanks, Josh.

Thanks, Marcus, especially if it was a good show :)

Thanks, Martin.

Thanks, Greg.

Thanks, Geoff. There's a dwarf galaxy in or around the tail that I'm going to see if I can track down.

Looks forward to your considered opinion, Mike. Also the obligatory worm inspection

Wow – I was expecting a nice wide field but not with this exquisite image scale and clarity. This image especially invokes the oft used phrase “island galaxies floating in space”.:)

Lovely work Rick, the sprinkling of back drop galaxies in the inky dark background is quite beautiful.

Cheers

Thanks, Marc. It sure doesn't hurt!

And thanks, Rodney. My astro buddy Alberto Pisabarro processed the same data and it's interesting to compare and learn from each other.
