This is a crop of a larger part of a mosaic I'm working on, this part is a 9 panel mosaic of the dusty regions within the constellation Lupis. I've shot this in wide fields a couple of times but never gone and zoomed in on the region itself.

Images were calibrated in PixInsight. Then they were Median combined in MaximDL (I can just load all 45 images into its Stack module and a few minutes later I have 9 registered and stacked panels).
Back to PixInsight for processing (created an automated script so that they all had the same treatment) and then into AutoPano Giga for registration.

From my previous mosaics I've been constantly trying to find the best way to streamline my processing technique because it just takes so long to deal with processing endless panels!

Anyway, this is 5x300s (per 9 panels) with my 130mm F/5 and a D810. At some point I'll go and put a bit more time into processing but I am hoping to get more subs per panel so it'll have to wait until then.

Not sure if it is my screen but you seem to have red columns through the image

It's not your screen, I'm pretty sure it's amp glow caused by the uncooled D810. I'm using darks but as the night cools down I cannot match all the frames. It is especially irritating when they're being taken during the work week and I don't have time to take them.
I've got one good dark that is for about 6ºC but my images are taken between 12ºC and 4ºC so the warmers ones are under corrected :/

That's excellent! A refreshing approach to the richness of the Milky Way.

The red columns that H0ughy mentioned might be the "AtmosFearic" water mark, which is subtle but red, seen in close-up.

Best,
Mike

This is on its way to being a grand image of the dusty regions in our Milky Way Colin. You are taking on a big project by the looks of it. I am sure it will be worth the effort.

Great vista Colin, nice use of that excellent bit of glass on a rarely imaged area of sky, very enjoyable view with pin point stars

The red bands could easily be removed in PS...including that graffiti :P

There is a quite strong vertical band that runs down the right third of the image. It could be mistaken as some of the dust in the surrounding area but it just seems too perfect to be natural. A QHY367 would fix that issue but I don’t have that cash laying around at the moment.

Eventually this will connect with the main Milky Way band though :)
Come to think of it, your 20” would do a wonderful job for this! May take
More than 9 panels to get there though ;)

I’ve got 30 panels so far that cover most of the Lupis constellation but I’ve got to wait for the next few moon to continue getting more area.

Not quite as nice as some of the dark Nebula regions that SRO do ;)

Marc is one of the few people that I’ve seen image these random dusty regions so far from galactic centre.
Something else for you to do with your FSQ Mike!

I imagine that some Dodge and Burn would remove the banding, my OLD version PS4 should still have that function. I know there the graffiti is but for the life of me I cannot see it!

Looking great Colin, I see my Running Man down there, wow it's a big field.

You'll hate me, but my eyes keep wanting to search more to the left and down, it would balance it nicely and show what else is down there.

Great work with Maxim, googling now!

Great shot Colin.

You can do scaled darks by combining it with a bias, that may help.

I imagine the easiest way to handle the red band would be to select it with the lasso and feather the selection then reduce red using the saturation tool set to red.

Greg.

Lovely vista Colin

I see the faint red bands you mentioned. Hopefully you can process these out. Are they also there on the subs and stacked panels? What ISO did you go for? The reason I ask is that co-incidentaly, as some form of reference, I've seen 300s dark frames at ISO3200 from the D810 boosted 5 stops with no patterning/banding issue. You probably used much lower ISO, but ...?
