View Full Version here: : The Wall

Whilst I can see the fighting dragons using my imagination, the orientation of NGC 6188 makes me think more of a wall - like the Berlin Wall.

OK, so it's not as pretty in RGB as it is in the usual NB, but hey, when do I ever follow the norm?! So, taking Rob Gendler/Martin Pugh's RGB rendition as a guide, I tried matching it - though, considering my equipment vs theirs and their processing prowess, it's like farting against thunder :)

Acquisition spiel:
Scope: Takahashi FSQ-85EDX
CCD: SBIG STF-8300C one-shot-colour.
Mount: Vixen SXP
Guiding: 50mm guidescope, Lodestar V1 and MaxIM DL 6 inbuilt guide algorithm
Exposure: 18 x 600 sec, UNFILTERED (no LP filter, only a UV/IR filter)
Location: side yard, Canberra Airport.
Light Pollution level: SEVERE :screwy:

No automation whatsoever apart from the capture sequence and guiding. Focused by hand (with Bahtinov), checked for the first hour (seemed to stabilise, so left it alone after first hour). I checked the scope again at 1am, to see the laptop screen dripping in dew and dew running off the scope. Checking the objective showed a light misting, so I packed up - have now installed my dew straps :)

I see my tilt demons have come to haunt me again, so need to buy one of those tilt adaptors. Bloody frustrating.

Not bothered processing this one much, as it's only 3hrs. IF I add more data, then I'll give it a royal murdering

Below is a crappy, yakky lo-res JPEG for all the lazy arses out there who can't click a link :P

Well I think that that is pretty good Lewis. I definitely see dragons adorned with red in the image.

Beautiful star colours - which we don't get in narrowband.

Pink Floyd: Bring down the wall.

Might be RGB but it’s still a nice image ;)

Good job Lewis, imagine how much better it would be without the severe light pollution and the dew issues.

Thanks all.

I may load up the H-a filter and OIII on the OSC just to add some more oompf next time. Should pop it a lot more.

Very nice!!! Heaps of dust there! Just need more data to get rid of that noise :)

Really really nice Lewis! I might have to break out the wide field gear again.

OK, my answer went onto another post - odd.

Anyway, thanks again.

Yes Logan, another 3 hrs might mitigate a lot of the noise.
