The boys ran across this snake coming back from the creek fishing tonight. It wasn't very far from the house.
She is a beauty! Look at those markings. So placid too, until someone accidently trod on her tail in the dark.
She didn't mind us admiring her and taking photos.
The only thing I had on me to put next to her, to show her true size was a ciggie (it wasn't lit).

To my untrained eye, it looks like a Carpet Python

yup its a carpet python (Morelia spilota). completely harmless... well they have teeth and aparently they hurt when they bite but theres no poison...
generally grow to about 2 meters long, but can get much bigger :)

directly related to the diamond python (its southern brother from another mother) :)

Yep, she's your common garden variety carpet snake.

They are glorius colours and patterns on the Python JJJ, I avoided running over one that was crossing the road on the way home this afternoon, it was about a metre long, I hope it made it to the otherside befor another vehicle arrived:prey: :prey:

LOL I only assumed it was a girl because she was so patient with us.
All brown snakes are boys.

Fantastic images Jeanette!!!

That is a very good specimen of a Carpet Python too.

Wish we had some around here. All our snakes are venomous
