Last night was my first night to have a go at Jupiter for the year. The seeing was terrible and the view through the camera looked like I was moving the focus back and forth and Jupiter was looking like it was made out of jelly. I really wanted to try this Microsoft LifeCam Studio web cam that I had modified but the bad seeing gave it little chance to show its worth. Maybe another night.

I chucked on the Canon 550d after using the web cam to show the difference and despite the terrible conditions the DSLR won out easily.

The DSLR images were created by using eyepiece projection and for the Webcam image, I used a 2.5x Powermate. Both were taken through an 8 inch f5 Newt.

Better than most Mick!

You did well to capture a lot of detail.

I sat outside last night and just used my eyeball scopes. Jupiter was very bright and twinkling beside the Scorpion.

My 85mm scope is now in storage but I will pack some binos when time to leave.

Thanks Peter, I am always surprised by what Pipp, AutoStakkert and Registax can do to get the best out of a below average looking video capture. The secret, I think, is to make it choose the best frames. I got Pipp to select 40% of the best video frames I captured, thus eliminating all those fuzzy soft ones.
Your scope is in storage? Are you moving house?

Thanks for the compliment Rowland, planetary photography is a whole different ball game compared to deep sky and wide field stuff. I'm always a bit rusty after not doing it for a few months.
