Just processed this one from 100 images using registax . taken with lx90 /2x barlow /LPI. Its the first of many i took this evening(14th april) but have not got round to processing the rest . Thought i'd post this before retiring for the night.

Very nice!
What's the focal length of the LX90? I would've expected the image scale to be bigger with a 2x barlow..?

What resolution did you capture these at?

Would you be able to see the moon shadow without using the barlow or would the detail of the whole pic be lost.?

You'd probably still be able to see it, though the whole scale would be much smaller. At that size it wouldn't be much more than a pixel or 2 wide :)

I used a meade x2 barlow with the lx90 . I believe from a sky and telescope review some years ago that they tested them at x1.74. That would make the f number F17.4 . Im also using an LPI which produces an image smaller than a Toucams. I captured and processed them as BMP 's to prevent "lossiness " i hope? The picture certainly looks better than those i've taken using jpeg format. If i get a better one from the other images i will post it.

Sorry but i am still trying to understand all this stuff, are you saying Philip that the picture quality is better in a BMP format over JPEG`s ?

Peter as far as i can gather jpeg format loses detail when you save or manipulate imges .apparently the pixels are arranged for visual use not idally for image manipulation. also they are a compressed format that leads to small errors. I'm sure a more expert member will be able to explain it better.

Thanks Philip, if i don`t ask i don`t find out. :)

If you get 8x8 pixel patches of artifacts then the JPEG compression is responsible.
