This little nebula in the coal sack isn't particularly well known but it often appears quite prominently as a tiny splash of colour in wide angle shots of the southern cross. It's a few years since I last attempted it so I thought it was time to have another go, this time going a bit deeper.

Cheers

Steve

Very cool, Steve. I don't think I've seen it before except as a tiny speck in a widefield image.

An unusual target Steve. Nicely imaged.

Greg.

Thanks Greg. You certainly don't see it much except in wide field.

Thanks Rick. If you do a search on it my image of a few years ago is just about the only one that ever comes up so it seems there there haven't been too many people who have imaged it.

That's a wee little beauty Steve...perhaps we should name it the Crouch Nebula?

Thanks for the thought Mike. I'm sure there would be plenty of people ahead of me on naming rights though.

Another gem from your fine series of overlooked tiny things, Steve. Well done.

Thanks M&T. Strangely I didn't think it was all that unknown but judging by some of the responses it obviously is.

Haven't seen that one before Steve. Looks reasonably bright though.

As always Steve...a great vista from a less travelled road. Nice one

Thanks Tim

Thanks Peter. Might be worth trying with The Allana.

Thanks Paul. Actually it is reasonably bright and is mentioned in the second edition of Hartung. Not too many people go after it though.

Thanks Louie. Had good seeing for the most part.

That's a really nice one Steve. I'll have to have a go at it sometime.

Really nice shot Steve! I had thought about photographing this a few months back with a non-widefield lens but then... Forgot!
Here is it in a wide field though.

This shows why a 30mm F/2.8 doesn't compete against a 368mm F/9 ;)

Thanks Colin. Actually I think your version looks pretty good!
