Orion first attempt

Hi All,

I know it's been done to death but I wanted to share my first attempt at Orion using Canon 7D 70-200mm Sigma @ 200mm F/2.8 2.5sec exposure, 45 images (35 lights 10 darks) stacked in Deep Sky Stacker and processed in LR afterwards. This was more of an effort to see how far I could push my equipment on a tripod with no tracking. I've since discovered the limitations of the iOptron skytracker with my big lens and can really only see it being used for wide angle astrophotography.

Hi Jason
You should be happy with your capture...well done.
Try another and get the horse head in if you can...just more exposures.
I picked it up using 30 second captures and that was a pleasing surprise.

Nice capture, I like how much detail and colour comes out of just 2.5 second subs.

What are the limitations you are finding on the iOptron skytracker?

Thanks for the praise people! Any encouragement is welcomed as I'm really green at this wonderful art.

LR is a wonderful thing, with a few tweaks here and there I was pleasantly surprised to see the colours appearing.

Here's a snip of my response to this question on another thread.... RE the Ioptron with very rough PA I've managed around 90 secs @ 50mm. To be honest I've really struggled with the big lens as I believe the weight is an issue and getting a precise PA, so my forays with it have been limited.
I really think it has major limitations and realistically I believe it will be more suited to wider angle type shots. I will continue to experiment though otherwise I'll never learn what boundaries I can push ;)
