Eric, we were lucky here. We only lost power for a millisecond! The TV, DVD, clock radios, etc stayed on but the lights flickered and the Pooter rebooted. Towns around us are still without power. Dunno why we were spared

I drove Springvale Road from the end of the Eastern Fwy to Ferntree Gully road with only one set of working lights.:eyepop:

Police directed traffic at Whitehorse, Cantebury and Ferntree Gully - the rest were "You're on your own, brother!"

Our whole town of 250 people have power. It's the other towns around us that lost it.

Mind you, my next door neighbour doesn't have any electricity anyway, so he wouldn't care one way or another. :P

Lost power for an hour and a half. I rang the power faults number and it was permanently busy. I gave up and went to make a cuppa...oh yeah...no power

I also switched on the light twice and I swear for half a second after I flicked the switch, I was honestly surprised the light didn't come on. Again, oh yeah, no power.

I take that 240VAC for granted and when it's gone, I realise how dependent I am on it. It's quite sad really.

Terry, if you are having trouble getting power to the lights when flicking the switch on, then you need more people to help you.

Get as many people as you can around the light switch and get them all to flick the switch on together, and the light will come on.

How does this happen?

Many hands make light work

Wonderful blanket of thick cloud to keep Melbourne at a snug 30 degrees.
