This is my first attempt in Sydney.80 mm espirt. 30 second exposures at 800.
180 frames of lights, 20 flats, 15 darks and 20 bias.

I cant seem to get much colour and I tried not to play with it so if it is still off please let me know.

I did a process in pixinsite and another in gimp but this one is just gimp.

Good one Alex.

Progress, progress and more progress!

Try taking less images (say 30) and vary the ISO between sets.
Maybe ISO 100 , 200, 400. etc

Lack of colour can be caused by all your little pixels having full tummys:)

Another cause is stretching the image too much.

it's looking nice. Nice stars and the carina looks well defined (for want of a better word for it). I reckon you must have it all there. Maybe don't cut the darker stuff as much? I think you've stretched it enough maybe?

Alex don't worry about the colour to much, that is a fine effort indeed, very nicely done
The fact that you can actually capture the splendor of the night sky is what it is all about, bugger the colour mate. ;)
that will all come together as time goes on.

Leon

Thanks everyone for the encouragement.

I am happy that I can get something here in the city but clearly I need a bigger scope, a better mount and a narrow band camera and a house just outta town ....
All good I am so happy to be able to do anything in the city, it helps me tolerate being here.

Looks good, Alex. A bit of practice with the software and you'll be able to make it rainbow coloured if you want :)

Nice job Alex.
Regarding your colour blindness; if you have any desire to produce images
with colours that are generally accepted as "normal", couldn't you look at
one such image, and process your version to have similar colours to what
you see in that image. If you don't care about colour "norms", just have fun.

I did this with the screen at 45 degrees to my eyes and it seems ok at that angle but to washed out straight on.

Alex leave it where it was mate, the first one, this lot seem very washed out.

You look like you've got some good data there Alex, stars look textbook and with 180x30s you should have some pretty clean data. Your reprocesses are showing more and more nebulosity so you're getting there nicely :)

You need to have your screen at 45 degrees:D
Thanks Leon

I cant see the difference in some cases..blue and purple can look the same for example...it does not worry me I see colour just not the way everyone else does.
I seem to be able to notice things in the real world others dont notice who are not colour blind..say in the bush I can notice things better or before another.

Thanks Rick.
I used to do well with photo shop years ago but the programs I use ..rather try to use..I dont have a feel for yet.

Anyways I am happy to be back doing something..I just wish I had tried doing stuff in the city years ago as it is no where near as bad as I thought although the sky seems unfamilar as it is so starless compared to up North.

Taken with 8 inch reflector between cloud and with plenty of Moon light earlier tonight (1/4/2018)
I had just part completed the cube observatory and was setting stuff up but managed to get a reasonable polar alignment just using what was above me...the seeing was terrible and could not even get focus cause it seemed misty..so very happy given nothing should have worked.

Could only get 34 lights and 10 darks..no light frames because I have not made a set up to do them yet...
30 seconds x 34 or 17 minutes exposure at 1600 iso thru nikon 24 meg 5500
Little process in gimp and a slight crop but I will try another process in pixisite maybe tomorrow.
I had hoped to get the carina nova, after I sorted a few things, to see what it was doing but the cloud prevented that...

Good one Alex

Excellent focus and composition.

You could back off the green a bit.

Have you tried using star masks or range selection masks (PI)?

As an aside I have done flats without a white sheet. When it is just getting light in the morning, point the scope straight up. Watch the histogram and set exposure to get the peak about a third way over (from the left).

Thank you Peter.
My licience on PI just ran out, I found out when I tried to process this image after I posted last night, so I have to do something about buying it.
If only too much green thats ok but my colour blindness will always hold me back.
I have, years ago, did the early morning flat take but I really need a box as I dont manage all nighters that well these days.
What was good was to put the lid on the cube with a cover and know next time I start with a fair polar align which I can improve upon rather than a fresh start so maybe I can finally introduce the lap top for guiding and camera control...although I think the mount needs another pull down☺
