I tried something a little different in getting the data for this image.

Binned the KAF16803's 9 micron pixels 2x, i.e. 18 microns.

I thought I'd end up with Lego-block stars...but in practice the result was not too bad at all. ( a bit like guiding my FSQ106...duh...what guiding?? :))

With an almost a half metre aperture and monster sized pixels, the signal boomed in! (and also needed a whole new set of darks/flats  )

As for more (RGB) data...I believe a monsoon is forecast for Sydney soon....

but the H-alpha data is here (http://www.atscope.com.au/BRO/gallery425.html)

must be late - its affecting my vision. looks like a ghost scratching his head with the right hand, but then again its a lovely field of nebulae and stars, swirling and intertwining to make a beautiful vista.

Might have to go and set up an imaging run for that now Peter - thanks for the inspiration ;-)

Hi Peter,
that's a great image.
I like the way you caught the dark nebulas at the top too.

cheers
Allan

Thanks one and all for your kind feedback. I've reprocessed the image now with more contrast...same URL.

I should have noted the bulk of the data was captured just 3 days shy of the full moon...which goes to show how unaffected NB is to skyglow.

Hopefully the Met bureau's forecast will not be so bleak and allow some colour soon.

P.S. I still think it should be called the slam dunk nebula (http://www.atscope.com.au/BRO/gallery138.html)

The dark nebulosity always - to me - looks like Arnie at the end of Terminator rising out of the melt furnace....
