The new high-resolution, hydra-headed PEPSI spectrograph is now in operation.

The resolution of this system is up at 270,000 across the visual spectrum. The information contained within the spectra is unbelievable.

See https://astrobites.org/2018/02/21/deep-spectra-with-pepsi/ for a rundown of its first target.

Out of interest, I think the highest amateur set up yields R 100,000, being Fluvio's Zeeman line detecting set up? Any higher Merlin?

I am sure COKE will come up with an alternative (OK, smart-a$$ comment of the day)

Stu,
I know Christian Buil was looking at a very Hi-res design....but I'd say Fulvio's results are up at the cutting edge for amateurs. Bare in mind getting R>100000 on the sun is a completely different story to doing the same with starlight - unless you have very BIG telescopes.
