View Full Version here: : Celestial Fish (NGC 2467)

Here is my addition to the run of NGC2467 images presented lately. A modified Hubble SHO palette comprised of approximately 30 hours of data.
The nebula is referred to as the skull and cross bones nebula for reasons which escape me. In the orientation as presented here I think that it looks like a celestial fish swimming along in the constellation of Puppis. However, my wife says that it looks like a shoe with a large heal and pointy toe pointing to the left of the screen. I not sure if there is something I should be following up on that one
It was fun playing with the colour mixing on this though given that I'm relatively new to the narrowband processing, constructive feedback is welcome.

I reckon it's a fish too, Rodney, and a very nice image!

I see both the shoe and the fish but you need to turn it up and have a wider field to see the more obscure skull and cross bones. Quite a nice job Rod

An interesting looking rendition Rodney. The subtle transitions are very nice.

Nice colorful rendition Rodney. I won't make any comments about what it resembles as I'm hopeless in seeing these things.

Nice work Rodney! Colour is nice, composition too.
In terms of opportunity for improvement, I notice in the full view on Astrobin that the nebula looks a bit "plastic" and the larger stars also have a kind of "plastic" looking halo on them too. I've seen the same kind of look to stars on my images when I went too far on noise reduction. I suspect you may have been a bit overzealous there and the image might be improved if you dial it back a bit. With 30hrs of data you shouldn't need much (if any!)

^+1 echoing Lee's comments, and adding that the colour palette is beautifully chosen and the star colours look great.
Nice image, well done
If you turn it upside down (https://www.astrobin.com/full/143447/B/), it looks like a butterfly :)

Thanks for the feedback and kind words Steve, Lee and Andy. It's always good to get some alternate views through other eyeballs than one's own to get a different perspective on things. I'm kind of ok with the way that this one has come out actually even if it is a bit on the smooth side. Just goes to show the subjective nature of processing in narrow band :).
Andy - yes I did see your image and in fact it was one that I used as a benchmark to see what could be done.
Thanks again guys.

Nice image your colours are a bit strong for me on the image but it looks like
a John Dory fish which is different not skull and Bones needed to go in closer the star colour looks great.

Thanks Martin. I agree - John Dory works too.
