C/2016 R2 PanSTARRS the blue comet, montage.

Really look out for your comet shots Tillbrook.
I'm inspired to try and capture one like it some day, I imagine their would be a different skill set to do so, I must look into it. Thanks for sharing, great stuff!

Great stuff, once again. This has to have been one of the most enjoyable comets for imaging. Something different each night. It's a wonderful shade of blue. It will be sad to see this one go :(

Thanks Anthony! :) Most of the processing is the same for comets as Deep sky. The main difference is how long you can go on an exposure, a fast moving comet with a dynamic tail changes may only allow 30 seconds to 2 minutes as a rough guide. In this case stacking the comet can blur tail features. Processing short exposures usually has noise, trying to get the most detail and taming the noise is the trick. R2 PanSTARRS is particularly tricky with the faint blue tail, takes some time to lift it out of the background.



Thanks Tel! :thumbsup: Yes it's been an interesting comet, so many changes in the tail, while visually it remains reasonably constant around mag 11.5. It did get up to around 10 in December.
