So at the moment I just drive out away from the city for an hour or two and setup down a dirt road or such.
Is it worth paying $100 so stay in a motel in a country town or is it better to hire a campervan/RV and stay at campsites or bush trails where allowed.

Where do you live? There are certainly some semi-organised dark site trips at various locations.

Iv been setting up in conservation park about an hour or so out, check to see the open hours but lots seem to be open all the time. Have a look at light pollution map to find nice dark spots.
Usually Ill be out for 4-5 hours (thats how long the laptop lasts) so Im usually home by 2-3am.
My next idea for a dark site is to bribe a farmer with beer to let me set up in a paddock.

That’s exactly what I was thinking! But I don’t know how to go about it. So so so many empty fields with tracks. All I need is one with a semi clear path with a hill that’s hides the cars >_<

Go to the local pub and ask the bar keep and maybe you will get a lead.

I have 200 acres at Tabulam and if anyone is game more than welcome...I have not been there for a while but if a group wanted to you could set up and use the house or rather shack that I once lived in.

We still have no idea where he is located, hard to provide more specific advice without that.

Find a locality you like and drop a note in the letterbox of the property owners explaining what you would like to do. Chances are one will respond.
You need a dark area first, once you've located that you need to try and find a clearing that will give you good views.
Google map in satellite view can help, but it's only a help you really need to be on the ground to see what it's like.
It helps if you prepare a few target areas you want to explore.
The best is simply asking on the forum for sites depending where you are located.
