This morning we went to the Dish, 20km north of Parkes.
Amazing, we saw the old control panel, and I saw an astrophoto exhibition and one of the pictures were two images of Saturn made by forum member Paul Haese.
I purchased the Astronomy Guide 2018 for $25, just for curiosity, but it is a nice one. I am amazed that there is still a market for it (in Europe and South Africa similar yearbooks are sold) in an era with star charting apps which can even be used offline, including a list of celestial events (Mobile Observatory Pro). I use Skysafari, Stellarium and this app.

Wow, a fantastic looking scope too.

I will never forget walking around the gardens at Jodrell Bank as an 8 year old. That thing looked vast (and still does)!

As a train driver, I always looked for it off in the trees to the left, 2/3 of the way between Warrington and Crewe. Happy days.:)

I really love how CSIRO have made their installations publicly viewable. My wife and I visited Parkes last April, and we have been to Tidbinbilla several times too and have always been impressed. We meant to get up to Narrabri but got "stuck" in the Warrumbungles - it was too nice to leave :)
Cheers,
Cam

What a coincidence we are on our way to QLD and called in at the Dish on Thursday the 15th, it certainly is a very interesting place.

I did too see all the awards and great images from the IIS community, very impressive stuff. ;)

Leon

Drove past the Parkes turnoff on the way to QLD on Saturday and almost took the detour. I saw it 11 years ago with my wife, so there was not any urgency.
