Maybe Micheal heard I was now in Sydney and thought a move to Tassy was his only option.
When you think of it astronomers tend to be rather demanding of perfection in detail...

Well Lewis, I hate to state the bleeding obvious but aren't you already employed full time in retailing astronomy equipment??

Superficially it sounds good, except for the pay and location. But really, how many times do you want to explain the difference between a dobs and a GEM or how to calculate magnification and fov? I'm used to explaining things once to PhD students. I'm not sure I have the patience or grace required.
Of course, if the employer was willing to support extensive field work so that I could become thoroughly familiar with their product range I might become a bit more civil to the customers.

Unless you already had a home, or retired, I can't see the offer being particularly attractive, especially with the price of rent and living in Sydney.

When you think about it ...it would not be easy selling enough product to justify that wage.
$200 mark up each day every day...
That would not be easy.

I hope a young person who is keen on Astro, who is itching to work and learn with a great team of like minded gets this role.

$52 k is a shop managers salary here in Mackay. Do ordinary workers / shop assistants have to work two jobs or 60 hr weeks just to survive in Sydney?

Rents can be $400 / wk just for a 1 bedroom dogbox apartment...

Couldn't agree more. It's a beautiful thing to turn your hobby/art into a livelyhood. Few can say they've experienced that.
I was a PC shop manager for 8+ yrs, and it was living the dream for the 1st half. The viability was eroded as PCs became more and more disposable. It's great doing what you love for a crust.
Here's wishing him/her all the best!

If I was retired and it was back in Camberwell Melbourne I'd take it on for sure but It's a huge paycut right now and it's in Sydney so Pass......
