Snaffled a quick few avie's between the clouds this morning
Seeing was pretty bad and some high thin cloud with a lot of humidity around (85%). The aim was to try to get suitable disc info on one avi and some prominence info on another. After processing each individual avi I attempted to layer the two to show surface and prominence detail. Relatively happy with first attempt, though still a lot to learn. There was not much surface activity near the prominence I was imaging, sunspot 935 (930)was just out of frame.
That's a nice bit of work, Paul.
The more images you post, the more I want a DMK:lol:

Nice first attempt Paul, how visible was the prominence visually.

 While I haven't had much of a chance to use it Matt, from what I've done so far I'm glad I bought it. :)
It was easily seen visually Phil.
I'll tell you now, this solar imaging stuff is very addictive. :D

nice effort Paul..have to say its better than anything I've managed to date..
its tricky this PST imaging, but you seem to well up the learning curve
BTW are you familiar with Larry Alvarez's work?

I once asked him what his techniques were and he -unusually for an amateur asronomer-said he wasnt willing to share.

Thanks for the postive feedback guys. It's really really hard not putting in an order for a 60mm solarmax or 60mm filters to go on the ED80. :P
Hi Narayan, yes I have seen some LA work. Stunning stuff. I dreamt of getting a 90mm Solarmax, nearly bought the 60 but realistically went for the PST  Double stacked though ;) (still waiting on the second filter. :( Soon hopefully :prey:)
Yes it's strange that an amateur isn't willing to share techniques
What are you imaging with, the Atik 1C or the Orion Starshooter?

actually either a standard -unmodded-ToUcam or my 300D-never tried the Orion
tried the Atik once or twice but it didnt give me decent results at all so went back to ToUCam
Think its nothing to do with the gear, just operator error

Funny thing is Tony , that though I almost never use most of my other scopes visually I use the PST almost every weekend/holiday to see what ol' Sol is doing--it takes about 5 min to set up and its always interesting..and unlike deep space what i see visually is -almost- as interesting as the images..give it a go we might make convert of you yet :)

Nice work Paul and congrats on finding a clear patch and having a go - it really paid off with an excellent piece of work.
One question – now you have both day-time and night-time ‘scopes, when are you going to sleep?
Cheers

The prominence is a little stunner though, nice solar image Paul and i know how bad the weather has been around this area of Qld, awful up here.
You solar imaging men aren't silly are you - no waiting through the middle of the night, fumbling about in the dark, getting cold etc..
There is common sense in imaging the sun through the daytime...lol
Paul that's a beauty mate !
Can't wait to see the results when you get the second filter.
It's already great now !
