IC2169 and Friends in Monoceros

This image of IC2169, vdB79, LBN903, IC446, NGC2247, and NGC2245, in Monoceros is near the more famous Cone Nebula.

This image consists of LRGB data simultaneously captured from two scopes: My CFF 250RC at f/6 with a Moravian Instruments G3-16200M camera, and a Stellarvue SV80ST with a QHY163M camera.

In total, there is over 29 hours of data for this image, processed with PixInsight.

A nicely detailed image Joel. The star colours, nebulae and dusty areas make for a great composition.

It seems that the data were combined from a wide field instrument (SV80ST) and a narrow field instrument (CFF 250RC). Is this correct? If yes, were there challenges in matching the resolution of the data between these two fields?

Thanks! Yes, 29 hours helps a lot. That figure is a bit misleading. Not all the data is equal. The data from the CFF250/G3-16200 is far superior in terms of resolution and "clean-ness". The SV80ST provides much of the RGB data so it doesn't have to be quite as good as the LUM.



That is correct. The image scale of the SV80ST is about 1.6 arcs/px and the CFF at f/6 is about .80 arcs/px. But this difference is scale is almost meaningless. I just use Pixinsight's StarAlignment and it automatically registers the SV80ST data to the CFF data. Easy peasy!

What a beautiful photo Joel.

This is one of my favourite objects in the entire sky. I have seen it called Dreyer's Nebula.

So sharp and detailed.

Beautiful composition and colours.

I have imaged it a few times in the past with very little success.

Your photo is by far the best I have ever seen of this object!

Thanks very much Mike and Ross. There aren't too many images out there of just IC2169. Most of them are widefield images of the area including the Cone nebula.
