How much will a 1cm chip on the edge of the lens affect a 90mm refractor? I was cleaning my Megrez 90 today, and mis-handled one of the lenses. Took a nice 1cm chip of the edge. Was going to bin the whole thing (the focuser is pretty iffy as well) but it seems a shame to chuck it out.

On the bright side I now have an excuse to get that 130mm TS APO I have been looking at

Don't know why on earth you'd take the lens out of its cell, assuming thats what you did. The chip may result in uneven expansion of the glass and distort the image but I would doubt it. I have seen an heard of much worse. Best way to find out is to star test it i guess.

There was some residue in-between the lenses - was not my finest hour. :screwy:

Did the same thing to a 5 inch Maksutov once ..large chipped edge when it dropped onto a hard wooden floor ..image of Jupiter visually was still excellent ! Not too sure about your refractor though...
And yes get the 130mm one day if you can..great size for a lot of objects and worth every penny.
