I know that there are those here that will most definitely call me a nut, but I know what I saw.

20 mins ago I was outside watering my lawn, absolutely clear blue sky not a cloud to be seen. As I do, I just looked up and saw a nice con trail moving west to east and going at a fair clip, so I thought, yep he is in the Jetstream. As I was watching, I saw an object appear to the east of the jet, what peaked my interest was that it was not aircraft shaped and was not producing any con trail. I thought maybe a weather balloon, but it was visually moving very fast in the opposite direction to the jet, and I thought, I hope they are separated. This object went past and above the jet and changed direction to cross the contrail. It disappeared whilst crossing the contrail and re-appeared then changed direction again following the track of the jet, it then circled the jet an as suddenly as it appeared, it disappeared. I though I was seeing things, maybe a floater in my eye, but this object was around the same size as the jet and appeared to be roundish in shape. This is why I originally thought of weather balloon, but balloons do not do radical changes of direction and all of a sudden disappear. I opened up Flight Radar on my phone and confirmed that the Jet was QF647 Perth to Sydney F410. Nothing else within a bulls roar showing on the app.

Ok, I have no other explanation as to what this was, but I know that I will be accused of being a lunatic, but those that know me will confirm that I am pretty straight and not open to coming up with "tall tales".

As you know I have an Aviation background and am pretty aware of what flies in our skies and what should and should not happen.
This was a definite unexplained happening. :eyepop:

..I go along with that Peter .. you saw what you saw ... I've seen some weird and unexplained occurrences.

2o'clock one morning I was driving along near the DPI Building on the outskirts of Rocky ( on the Yeppoon Road ) and saw 2 lights in parallel coming in my direction on the other side of the road.
There was a ' dip ' in the road about 100m ahead....I saw the 2 lights go into the ' dip ' but never came out ....???

I was puzzled as to what happened to the ( what I thought was a car heading in my direction ) .... so I drove further up the road to the ' dip ' and beyond for about 1/2 k .... nothing there ... nothing

There were no ' turn off's ' on either side of the road....so what ever it was ' should have ' come into view ..... it was gone ... disappeared into thin air.

I know what I saw to ...

Still remember that to this day.

New Years Eve 2018, Canberra. Set up on Lake Burley Griffin to watch the fireworks. Fireworks start, and my attention was not on the fireworks but a blue "orb" on the horizon, neatly between Mt. Ainslie and Black Mountain from my position. Blue light - with NO nav/position lights moves south towards Canberra - slowly. Then moves north. Then moves west, then east then east again and just vanished.

I was not the only one to see it - someone here who shall remain nameless (unless they wish to come forward) also saw it from a higher vantage point.

Now, it COULD have been military helicopter traffic, or something like that. COULD have.

Interesting that all 3 respondents so far in this thread have DIRECT aviation backgrounds too, so we know nav lights, usual traffic etc.

Yes Lewis, you are spot on. I fully expect to be ridiculed, but aviation wise, I can offer no other explanation. This object was definitely higher than the contrail or at least at the same level to disappear either above it or into it. Unusual to have odd sightings during daylight hours that is for sure. :rolleyes:

Why should you be ridiculed... you saw something you couldn't explain and you haven't jumped to conclusions.

But I am curious "I opened up Flight Radar on my phone and confirmed that the Jet was QF647 Perth to Sydney F410." no images or video taken of said object I guess or you would have posted them.

This could also well be a serious matter with a commercial airliner being in the vicinity, might be worth contacting the relevant flight people/airline to see how they respond. Maybe it was seen by the crew etc?

I know you guys have aviation backgrounds but a plane at such distance and from the ground is there a likelihood of a distant but much lower drone, bird etc that would be hard to distinguish in the line of sight?

In saying that have I ever seen anything really odd in 45yrs ... well yes, three "stars" moving across the night sky in a triangle in the nineties... turned out to be from memory a secret US defence triangulation satellite system. That took some searching and Tony (Firstlight) also saw it from Warwick Qld
I also saw the satellite tether (changed from tool box to satellite after I googled it) that broke away from the Space Shuttle years ago under very dark skies - I think 1996.. very eerie but I knew approx where to look was hoping to see something - unfortunately no camera phone.

There is no reason to be ridiculed here, indeed it would be very wrong. Your wording is sound and you haven't implied anything other than you saw something you can't explain at the moment.

Peter, I didn't have time to grab a camera/phone, I was outside and they were all inside, and the whole event only lasted about 30 secs. When it disappeared, I went in to grab my phone and open up the app to confirm it was the QF flight.

I cant believe everyone is letting the opportunity to ridicule slip thru their fingers.
Peter you are nuts.
I have had two seperate moments which until I worked out what was going on in each case was extremely disturbing.
One was a plane behind and illuminating a small cloud via reflected sunlight and another was one of those fluffy plant seed carriers that float around with the sun behind.
The Sun in both cases caused each object to look very different.

Also I once stalked what I thought was a rabbit for ages trying to see how close I could get but it turned out to be a piece of newspaper.

But clearly Peter you have seen a UFO there is no shame in that its the folk who see something and then conclude it is an alien craft that open themselves to ridicule.

:question: About a week ago at 4am when I get up for work the first thing I do in the morning is go outside for a look at the sky as the jug boils , as usual it was brilliant !! Jupiter and mars together were awesome , Carina was high and beautiful .

As I was looking south I spotted a bright satellite ( 2nd Mag. ) moving south to north thru Crux , I watched it pass alpha Crux and it just disappeared ,,,, bang ! gone :eyepop: WTF ! I looked at the area , calculated the speed and searched where it should be but no , it just winked out in mid flight :shrug: as it moved in front of alpha Crux ,,, strange .

No you aint alone here .

Yeah, Brian, satellites can cop the blame a lot of the time.

Satellites only reflect light if their solar panels are only receiving the suns light,in other words if the panels are facing away from the sunlight then they don't shine.
They blink out if they go int the earths shadow.;)

No ridicule from me either..you saw something..the pilots even when they do see something unusual, wont make it public unless the pilots want to risk their career....we'll probably hear nothing more of it...Thats sad!

Probably something very explainable as usual.

To me I find Interstellar travel highly unlikely, though possible and worthwhile using robots instead of living beings.. though you wouldn't think robots would operate in that fashion around another craft....how very far away is the nearest habitable Planet, with an ultra advanced civilisation..a long, long ,long, way for sure..no conclusive signs yet. .

Im opened minded though ..somewhere out there.

Went for our early morning tea break one Friday morning around 6 months ago ,cuppa tea and sat down with one of my work mates when this huge silver ball shaped thing came over the top of us below some low clouds ,slowed right down then just bolted but the amazing thing was we both saw it ,We didn't have a clue what the heck it was...Strange.

Andrew, there probably is an explanation for it, but buggered if I can see what it is. Most people wont even mention such happenings for fear of ridicule. Such is life really, if we see something that to us cannot be explained, we are often judged to be crackpots:shrug:

Peter no one thinks you are a crack pot.
I think you are courageous for posting but unlike some who see strange things you have not suggested it was out of this world for example.
I go to another site where one can chat about science thru to religion and there is a guy there who sincerely thinks the various strange sightings are of craft from another world...they may or may noy be but the key is not to go that way if one simply can not explain what they have seen.

That pilot of recent video fame saw something for sure ..he said it DIDN'T allow him to lock on.. He dos'nt appear to be anything but a normal, highly experienced guy trying to get at the truth.... Drone , secret craft , whatever it was, it was there, but....we'll never know ..as usual.
