This year is the first opportunity I have had to consider going to Qld Astrofest. Anyone planning on heading up there from the NSW Central Coast and/or Newcastle?

Any word on the dates for 2018, so i can put them on my calendar? I tried a search but nothing was found on 2018 dates. I assume around the 11 & 12th of August, New Moon weekend.

As a former chair of the committee, I can assure you that it runs at a loss. The income from sponsors raffle prizes are the reason that it goes ahead so I'm sorry that you don't find the hundreds of hours of volunteer effort that go into making this brilliant event aren't worth a few bucks.
I on the other hand will be lovin' it!!!

In defense of Geoff, he is an old pensioner, like me, and he does venture out to the dark site at Bretti NSW on a regular basis, which is no frills bush camping. Nothing is going to be as cost effective as close to home free camping. The long trip from his place to Linville and back would be pretty costly in fuel. I don't think he was suggesting that what you guys do was not worth the fee you charge.
