What a shocking storm!!!
No damage to the property or observatory but it was touch and go for a while with hail this size!

Rang the wife around 3pm yesterday and asked her if she could finish work early so I wouldn't be out in it, as it was decidedly green.
In the end, missed our part of Canberra completely, and we barely got rain (Fairbairn). Go figure!

Appears to be frozen particulate matter from Parliament House vents. Did they vanish after a while, resembling broken promises? Thinking definitely time to swap sheds to protect that gear Simon. So easy to ROR convert.....:)

Nope, not mine. I'm an old-fashioned mechanical admirer. These (http://www.meistersinger.com/company/single-hand-watches.html)are awesome.
I like their saying, 'time is only relative'.
Tried that on the wife when complaints that I was spending too much of it in the obs were tabled...won't try it again though.

Speaking of Murrambateman, I'm from Canberra and I've spent ages driving around places between Canberra and Murrambateman, trying to find a nice open space to set up my scope, where cars will rarely drive. Any ideas or advice?

Hi Finski,
I know what you mean, the problem is the land is mostly freehold around the north of Canberra so finding any spot that isn't already owned by someone is likely going to be right next to the Barton (still crown land), which is not necessarily what you want.
There's a few lay-bys in roughly the middle between Murrumbateman and Canberra (too close to the highway) but if you know who owns Spring hill, that might be a good spot. I know that used to be owned by Phil Robinson (not sure if this site is up to date, but look at this (https://siteguide.org.au/Sites/Spring%20Hill.html) reference) and if you arrange a time and date beforehand he may be amenable to letting you sit on top of the hill for a night.
What a view that would be!
