Hi all I had a little problem a while ago and dropped my Long Perng 60mm triplet straight on the focuser , it grumbled after that so I put it away until today and on opening it up discovered this ,,, OUCH ! one of the tiny bearings must of taken all the force of the landing and its shattered ! .

Dimensions are , 7mm O/D , 3mm I/D and 3mm thick .

Any help on where to find a replacement here in OZ most appreciated .

I will try and machine up a nylon replacement until a replacement can be found ,,, bummer  .

Try Small Parts and Bearings in Qld:

https://www.smallparts.com.au/

Their catalog can be cumbersome to navigate but they have a lot of stuff.

Just select the 3x7x3...$1.49 is hard to beat lol (plus in Melbourne)

Or: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/191000002-10-x-Ball-Bearings-7mm-by-3mm-by-3mm-7x3x3-7-x-3-x-3/330836718892?hash=item4d0767b52c:g: N8YAAOSwySVZ8cdK - that's for 10 of them

Make sure your dimensions are RIGHT - use a caliper

My 2c and experience on bearings is the different qualities make a difference. I've used ABEC7 grade bearings with ceramic balls and with stainless balls (separately), encased in rubber seals and with double casing. I've also used the ABEC 1 and 2 grades sold on ebay and local suppliers.

I found the ceramics to be much better quality and the rubber seal very effective at keeping dust and moisture out. They come pre-greased with Lube Kluber NB12/300KP Grease which is a good long term grease. Double casing will do a similar thing but make sure it's stainless or it will rust fast.

...but they aren't cheap and in the main need to come from BOCA bearings in the US, although local specialist suppliers might have them (here's a link: https://www.bocabearings.com/products/smr73c-2os-7-nb2-16645). You can also get high temp rated of the same for about $2 more.

The problem with the ebay and cheaper bearings is that while they might do the job in the short term, they quickly develop wobble and wear faster than other bearings.

.
Thanks again the bearings were waiting for me this afternoon , took all of 10 minutes to fit and she is as good as new .

Brian.

ps . dont mind the longer thread sticking down in the photo , it is actually one of the screws that holds the focus shaft on , I changed it after the photo .
